Empowering Change Through Inclusion

Transforming Lives, One Community at a Time

Join us in our mission to create a world where every individual, regardless of ability, can thrive and contribute to society.

Our Journey and Mission

Leli Khono was founded to address the critical lack of support services for people with disabilities following the closure of disABILITY Connexion in 2022. Recognizing the urgent need for comprehensive care, we stepped in to provide education and empowerment opportunities. In partnership with TrainYouCan, we offer accredited training programs tailored to the unique challenges faced by individuals with disabilities. Our mission is to foster independence, dignity, and inclusion by equipping individuals with practical skills that benefit both them and their communities.

Understanding the Challenges

The Reality for People with Disabilities in KwaZulu-Natal

Empowering Communities

Our Inclusive Approach

At Leli Khono, we are committed to a community-centered approach that empowers individuals with disabilities and fosters inclusion. We believe that true empowerment begins with understanding and addressing the unique challenges faced by people with disabilities. By working closely with communities, we aim to create an environment where everyone is valued and supported. Our initiatives focus on education, training, and community engagement, ensuring that people with disabilities are equipped with the skills and resources they need to thrive. We are dedicated to breaking down barriers and promoting a society where disability is not a limitation, but a part of the diverse tapestry of human experience.

Our approach involves collaborating with local leaders and organizations to tailor our programs to the specific needs of each community. We provide accredited training and resources that empower individuals with disabilities to become active, contributing members of society. By fostering a culture of inclusion and understanding, we aim to transform communities into supportive environments where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

Counsellor Training Initiative

Empowering Through Training

In partnership with local communities, we launched the Counsellor Training Initiative, a groundbreaking program aimed at empowering individuals with disabilities through accredited counselling skills. This initiative is designed to equip participants with the tools they need to provide vital support within their communities.

The Counsellor Training Initiative is a transformative program that seeks to train individuals with disabilities from diverse communities in Pietermaritzburg. Our goal is to provide these participants with accredited counselling skills, enabling them to serve as key support figures in their communities. The program includes trauma counselling to help participants process their own experiences, followed by a comprehensive training curriculum that culminates in a NQF Level 4 qualification. Once trained, these counsellors will act as vital links between Leli Khono and local leadership, helping to identify and support individuals with disabilities. This initiative is a crucial step in our mission to create sustainable, community-based support networks that extend beyond the training itself.
